So this week I met up with the delectable @BurtonOutdoors for an overnight wild camp on the edge of a forest. I decided to give using a hammock another go, having previously not enjoyed it too much. I used a flint and steel to light a fire and Lee cooked a lovely Thai curry on the camp fire. during the night it got windy and we had some issues, but it was a great night. But I still hate hammock...

Sad there isn't more such bushcraft videos like this. Most people won't be carrying sleeping bag, axe, knife and such when they realize they are lost in the woods. First and foremost, stay calm and don't panic. Look around to see what you can use to make any type shelter and get to work before the sun sets... Thumbs Up!

I like these MRE reviews, always entertaining watching your facial expressions as you dive in and start tasting. I can't really enjoy them as there's too much preservatives, salt, sugar etc etc... The military ones are my favorite, all the different packets of stuff to go through. Glad you enjoy them for me. Thanks, lots of fun.

This is a the same concept as a thermacell for anyone familiar. The thermacell uses the same chemicals on pads that are heated with butane. You buy repellant pads and small, non refillable bottles of butane to use the item. Well, they work. Its basically and aerosoled version of permethrin, a proven insect repellant/insecticide used worldwide by outdoorsman, militaries, etc. The flextail version improves on this old design. Most of us aren’t off grid for extended periods. A battery powered system is more convenient, cheaper (no refills needed), and faster (the pads heat up quicker). The pads flextail sells are cheaper as well. Not to mention the size factor, the flextail is much more carry friendly than the thermacell. Initial purchase price is higher, $50 for the flextail vs $30 for the thermacell, but you’ll easily recoup that difference the first time you buy repellant refills. The flextail also isn’t heated via combustion, so in theory it’s also safer. If you spend any time outdoors, or are a mosquito magnet like I am you’ll enjoy this product.

Clay is just rock that's been chemically 'weathered' by carbonic acid in a process that's all sciencey. On the other hand, that shite you were using, being close to the surface, looked to have a lot of organic matter in it, some of which would undoubtedly have passed through various creatures' arses. All adds to the flavour... 😳🤣 (That heat would have killed pretty much anything untoward, I'm sure. Not that I'm in any way an expert. In anything.)

Good job! Best review I've seen so far. It's the first time I've seen a tent completely assembled, with all the pegs and guy lines in place. G'day Dan, Jon, great night out fellas and nice experiment muck'n about with "dinosaur poo". I have seen that method once before, though with clay alone, and in a pizza type oven, comes out similar to using a tagine. But hey, who's gonna carry that lot out in the sticks. Just goes to show what can be done out there with the natural materials at hand, excellent stuff guys !!!!!! As a gardener, rather than a geologist, clay is simply very fine grained particles, thus retaining far more moisture than coarser sand, especially sub-surface. It does however, generally capture more vital growing elements/nutrients in doing so. I can tell you its far far easier to condition sandy soils, than clay, into ideally balanced "loam", by adding extra organic material. So, or sow, ...... ; ) .... it's horses for courses, depending on what you want to grow, ..... or otherwise, do with it. Btw; I have been getting on very well with the modern fruity flavoured IPAs, though cant say I've encountered a strawberry, or any other berry, job for that matter ...... yet ; ) Also, I have been known to have a robust red wine with white meat and even fish'n chips, but really .......... get a decent dry riesling or chardy in ya ; ) Cheers Duke

G'day Dan, Warren, fantastic trip once again you blokes !!!!!! Some interesting macro camera work there Dan, ..... I am glad you showed the culprit to go with it ; ) Crocodile Rock ............ what a ripper !!!! Is that close to ... Alley-Gay Tor. Nice bit of history thrown in. Incidentally, a lotta old country lines have been repurposed as, what are known as "rail trails" here, for hiking and mountain biking, which is all very well, though it doesn't help if you ever want/need to re-open 'em to trains ........... down the track . Cheers Duke.

I love me an umbrella, but this one is super heavy. You can easily cut the weight in half by getting one without the telescope function and rigging your own hands free attachment. You just need two elastic cords with cord locks on your shoulder straps to attach the umbrella.

Clay comes from the ground, usually in areas where streams or rivers once flowed. It is made from minerals, plant life, and animals-all the ingredients of soil. Over time, water pressure breaks up the remains of flora, fauna, and minerals, pulverising them into fine particles. For this particular spot,,,, I can confirm,,,,, it is very likely,,,,,, to be one of my "jobbies" ;)
